🧠 1. What Does This Skill Mean?

IELTS Listening doesn’t just test what you hear — it tests how well you understand the speaker’s feelings, mood, and purpose.

Even if you know all the words, you might still miss the attitude behind them.

Positive: genuine interest

You’ll face these questions mainly in Part 3 and Part 4 of the Listening Test:

🎧 4. How to Identify Tone in IELTS Recordings

✅ a) Listen for Voice Cues

Rising tone = uncertainty or question
Falling tone = certainty or confidence
Stressed words = emphasis on belief or feeling

✅ b) Notice Modality (Power of Words)

Words like might, could, probably show uncertainty.
Words like definitely, surely, clearly show strong opinion.

✅ c) Recognize Contrast Words

Speakers often change direction using:

Example: “I used to enjoy group projects, but lately I find them frustrating.”
→ Negative attitude (after “but”).
